Mediation
of Dispute Involving Underground Injection Wells, Florida
Providing
mediation services on a dispute related to the disposal of waste water
in underground injection wells in Florida. Project requires an understanding
of US EPA's Injection Well Program and involves state and local entities.

Provided
management assistance on community relations/risk communication aspects
of a project for permitting a hazardous waste incinerator. The project
included assessing the relevant audiences and their concerns, addressing
the issues raised and providing guidance on the appropriate means to
present risk assessment results. Risks were communicated in such a way
to facilitate the public's understanding. Appropriate risk comparisons
were utilized to provide a perspective on the risk from the incinerator.

and drafted cooperative agreements to foster business development on
the Muscogee reservation. Provided advice as to the problems arising
from resource development projects on allotted lands and the issues
associated with such projects under the Land Settlement Act, the Restorations
Acts and other statutory schemes. *top

the Muscogee (Creek) Nation as to the statutory and regulatory authority
for tribal natural resource damage claims. Also facilitated tribal understanding
of the issues surrounding authority for natural resource damage claims,
damage assessments and valuation of natural resources. *top
Management
of Recycling Program, Tennessee
For
an air conditioning and refrigeration supply company, ensured that CFC
recovery operations complied with regulatory requirements. Supervised
handling of CFCs from drop-off by repairperson to shipment to manufacturer
for recycling. Also developed an office recycling program to recover
materials and reduce waste disposal costs. Conducted training of facility
personnel regarding the recycling program. *top
Provided
oversight of an investigation and natural resource damage assessment
(NRDA) for a site in coastal Texas involving contaminated soils and
sediments. Provided support for negotiations between two refining companies
and trustees involved. Contaminants of concern included numerous PAHs
and heavy metals such as barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and
zinc. Developed a streamlined injury determination and valuation of
damage using an ecological risk assessment as a screening technique
for injury. Reviewed and provided input to sampling and quality assurance
plans for investigations. Conducted a valuation of the natural resource
damages and assisted with the negotiation of a cost allocation among
the responsible parties. Negotiations resulted in identifying restoration
projects to be conducted by the former site owner/responsible party
to repair injuries assumed as part of a streamlined NRDA. *top
