Development of Sediment Quality Standards
Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation
EI provided support to the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CCT) in developing sediment quality standards for the waters of the reservation. EI staff worked collaboratively with a group of tribal members, scientists, attorneys and others to conduct a comprehensive review of sediment standards developed for other regions and toxicity data from sediments in the Columbia River basin. Based on this information, EI and the group developed sediment standards appropriate to the waters of the reservation and protective of human health and the environment. In support of regulatory development, EI staff additionally drafted a preamble to the proposed regulations for Tribal review. These guidelines will serve as applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in establishing cleanup levels for Lake Roosevelt.
