Training: "Improving Environmental Compliance and EMSs at Federal Labs"

US EPA, Nationwide

EI worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and conduct workshops on “Improving Environmental Compliance and Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) at Federal Labs." EI led 13 workshops covering all EPA regions. The training course covered all aspects of federal laboratory facility responsibilities under environmental laws, statutes, regulations, and executive orders including Executive Order 13423, Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management. Workshops included information on safe and economically feasible pollution prevention alternatives for federal facilities' laboratories, integration of pollution prevention (P2) goals into EMSs, and examples of P2 tools that could be implemented by federal facility lab staff. In addition, the workshops included success stories from a panel of laboratory P2 and EMS experts. Air programs, water and wastewater programs, pesticide programs, solid and hazardous wastes, hazardous substances and chemicals, environmental response, EPCRA programs, hazardous material transportation, and toxic substances were covered in the workshops.
