Transportation and Sustainability Support

Mid America Regional Council, Kansas City

EI is part of a team assisting the Mid America Regional Council (MARC) in Kansas City to develop a regional green infrastructure mitigation strategy that includes solutions for better integration of transportation and environmental planning processes and specific implementation measures. The project is funded through a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) grant. Project activities include 1) conducting research on nationwide best practices of regional mitigation development strategies and implementation, and relating these practices to the development of a regional mitigation strategy for the Kansas City metropolitan area; 2) assisting MARC staff in organizing an interrelated set of training, professional development, and community engagement exercises to build a common understanding of Eco-Logical principles and approaches; strengthen relationships among local governments and state/federal transportation and natural resource agencies; and begin generating agreement on how Eco-Logical principles will be applied in regional consultation and mitigation planning efforts to create a more sustainable regional transportation system; and 3) assisting MARC staff in refining an action plan for better integration of transportation and conservation planning processes.
