Training: "Environmental Compliance at Veterans Administration Hospitals"

EI developed and conducted a three-day workshop for environmental staff from VA Medical Centers across the country. The training course covered all aspects of federal environmental laws, statutes, regulations, and executive orders including Executive Order 13423, Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management. Relevant VA Directives and selected Washington, Oregon, and California state laws were also featured. Workshops included an introduction to environmental law (jurisdiction and liability), basic EMS training, and detailed coverage of statutory requirementsand examples. Air programs, POL (petroleum, oils, and lubricant) issues, water and wastewater programs, pesticide programs, solid and hazardous wastes (including medical waste), hazardous substances and chemicals, environmental response, EPCRA programs, hazardous material transportation, and toxic substances (lead, PCBs, asbestos, and radon) were all covered in the workshop.
