Developed
and presented a seminar for medium and large Latin American companies
considering implementation of an EMS. Presented potential benefits and
costs of implementation and some of the key areas of focus for an EMS.
Provided an overview of the ISO 14001 standard and requirements for
its implementation.
Participated
in conducting a series of training courses on environmental law and
environmental enforcement principles presented to judges, prosecutors,
NGO attorneys and environmental technical personnel in two different
Brazilian states. The course concerned the development of strategic
environmental protection plans and the type of information that should
be collected and analyzed to support the development of plans.
On
behalf of IDB, conducted technical review of proposed Technical Cooperation
Project to study problems with Chile's system for evaluating environmental
impacts caused by conflicts among citizens, industry and government
agencies. Worked on a team developing a grant project to assist municipal
governments in community-based planning for improved environmental management.
Reviewed the proposed scope of work and budget, coordinated with the
sponsoring NGO to make needed modifications, prepared a detailed plan
of operations including objectives, specific activities, budget, schedule,
project management, evaluation and monitoring, and prepared terms of
reference in Spanish for consultants.
Working with the Ministries of Health and Agriculture, an EI expert developed and implemented a community outreach and education program to encourage the development of small farms and ecological sound agricultural practices. Worked closely with government officials to develop course syllabus and materials. Taught courses in rural communities throughout Paraguay on a weekly basis.
